In effect from October 15, 2026. Version 1.

Krataa is an iPhone app that keeps your household's receipts and writes down every line. This page says what Krataa collects, why, who else receives any of it, and how you get it back or have it removed. It covers the app and this website.

The short version

  • Krataa has no ads and no trackers. Your data is never sold.
  • Your receipts are kept in your household's account. The people in your household can see them. The people who run Krataa can see them only in the limited, recorded way described below.
  • Krataa itemizes a receipt automatically only if you turn that on. When you do, the receipt goes to Anthropic, the company whose model reads it.
  • Discover uses your prices only if everyone in your household says yes. It never says who paid.
  • You can export everything, turn any of this off, and close your account in the app. To have your data erased, write to us.

Who runs Krataa

Krataa is made and run by an independent developer in the United States. In this policy, "we" means the developer.

What Krataa collects in the app

When you sign in. Krataa uses Sign in with Apple. Apple confirms that it is you and passes on the name and the email address you agree to share. If you choose to hide your email, Krataa receives a relay address that Apple makes for you. The sign-in system also records when you sign in, the internet address you connect from, and the kind of device you use.

Your profile and your household. A display name, a profile picture if you add one, your household's name and time zone, who its members are, and the invite codes and requests to join.

Your receipts. The photo you take of a receipt, or the screenshots or PDF you bring in. A receipt shows whatever the store printed on it. That can include the last digits of a card, a loyalty number, or your name and address on an online order.

What itemizing writes down. The store, the date and time, the total and the tax, whether you bought in a store or online, an order number, and the US state printed on a store's receipt. For each line: the text as printed, the item, the quantity, the unit, the price, the category, the brand, the size, a product code, and any saving the receipt printed.

What you type. Purchases and income you add by hand, notes, corrections, categories, budgets, the paychecks and bills you ask Krataa to expect, shopping lists, shelf prices you check, and the claims you file.

Your choices. Your answer about automatic itemizing and your answer about Discover, with the date of every change. Whether you turned alerts on.

For alerts. If you turn alerts on, the token Apple gives your phone so that a notification can reach it.

About the app itself. Once a day, the app's version and your iPhone's iOS version, with a random id the app makes for that install. It is not your phone's hardware id, and it goes when you delete the app. The app also records a short list of events, such as "app opened", "receipt added" or "list opened". An event carries no store, no price and nothing you typed.

A record of each reading. Which model read a receipt, how long it took, what it cost, and what it returned.

What Krataa does not collect. Your location from the phone. Your contacts. Sound: Krataa takes still photos only. Health data from your phone. An advertising id. Krataa never asks for a bank login or a card number. If something you photograph or import shows one, it is in the picture you gave Krataa, and Krataa is set up not to copy it into your records. Krataa does not follow you across other apps or websites.

Why Krataa collects it

To do what the app is for: keep your receipts, list what is on them, show what you spent and what things cost, remind you of a deadline you asked to hear about, and share all of it inside your household.

To keep the app working: the reading records, the events and the app version show us what breaks and which versions are still in use.

To stop abuse: an account that harms the service or other people can be suspended.

Nothing is collected for advertising. Nothing is sold. No profile of you is built for anyone else.

Automatic itemizing, and who does it

Automatic itemizing turns a receipt into a list of items and prices. It is off until you turn it on, and each person in a household chooses for the receipts they add.

Krataa uses an AI model for this: Claude, made by Anthropic. When itemizing is on, Krataa sends Anthropic:

  • The receipt image or PDF, and everything printed on it.
  • Your household's category names.
  • The names your household uses for stores, products and income, such as "Paycheck", so the same thing is named and filed the same way each time.
  • Item names you have corrected.
  • The day you added the receipt.
  • Later, the text of item lines already stored, to fill in sizes and kinds for price tracking.

Krataa never sends Anthropic your account name, your email or your Apple ID.

Anthropic processes receipts only on Krataa's behalf. It does not use them to train its models. It deletes them within 30 days, unless they are flagged for a safety review or the law requires keeping them. You can read its terms at Anthropic's commercial terms and its retention rules at Anthropic's article on how long it stores data.

If you say no, the receipts you add are saved and not itemized, and nothing of yours is sent. Your past receipts and corrections are also left out of what goes with other people's receipts in your household. You can still add purchases by hand.

You can turn itemizing off at any time in Account, Data and privacy. Receipts already itemized stay in your Ledger.

Automatic itemizing can make mistakes. Anything it is not sure about is marked for you to check.

If Krataa ever changes the company that does this, everyone is asked again, and nothing goes to the new company before you say yes.

Discover

Discover compares what households paid for the same things at the same store chain in the same state. It starts empty: a price appears only once enough households have added one, as set out below. You can read Discover whether or not you add your own prices.

Your household's prices are used only while every member has said yes. One no, or a new member who has not answered, keeps your household out.

What Discover uses from a household that said yes: which item it is, its price per item or per pound before any coupon, the store chain, the state the store is in, and the week. Never the day or the time.

What Discover never uses: anything you typed by hand; online orders; receipts from stores that are not on Discover's list; tax, fees and discounts; health and pharmacy items, baby and pregnancy items, alcohol, tobacco and adult items; bills, rent, services, dining and transport.

What is published: one price for an item at a chain in a state for a week. It is the middle price across households, rounded to 5 cents, and it appears only when at least 5 households bought the item on at least 5 different receipts. No name, no household and no count is published.

You can see every line Discover uses from your household before you say yes, under How Discover works. If you later say no, your prices leave at the next weekly update, and no price stays longer than 12 weeks.

We do not try to work out which household is behind a Discover price, and we do not allow anyone who works with us to try.

Discover may also show prices Krataa checked at the store itself. They are labeled as checked by Krataa and are not mixed into household prices.

Who else receives your data

Krataa relies on a small number of companies to run. Each one handles data only to provide its service to Krataa, under terms that require it to protect your data at least as well as this policy does.

CompanyWhat it does for KrataaWhat it receives
AppleSign in with Apple, notifications, and TestFlight during the betaThat you signed in. The words of an alert, which can name a store, an item and an amount. Anything you send as beta feedback.

AnthropicAutomatic itemizingOnly what is listed under "Automatic itemizing", and only if you turned it on
VercelServes this website, and the console described under "What the people who run Krataa can see"The internet address and browser details any web server receives. What an operator opens in the console passes through Vercel's servers on the way to their screen.

CloudflareRuns the website's domain name. Checks that a waitlist sign-up comes from a person. Forwards mail you send us.Your internet address and browser details when you use the waitlist form. The mail you send us.

Nobody else. No advertisers, no data brokers, no analytics companies, no banks.

We may have to hand over data if a court or the law requires it. We will tell you if we are allowed to.

If Krataa is ever moved to a company, your data moves with it under this policy, and we will tell you first.

What the people who run Krataa can see

Krataa has a separate console for the people who run it. Today that is one person. Signing in to it takes an emailed code and a code from an authenticator app.

Everyone with access to the console can see names, email addresses, households, counts of receipts, each household's monthly totals for the last six months, your answers about itemizing and Discover, your app version, and a timeline of activity.

A receipt's photo and its lines can be opened only by the roles that are allowed to, to find out why a receipt was read wrong or to help you when you ask. Each time someone opens a photo, Krataa records who opened it, when, and which receipt. A photo opens for two minutes, and nobody can browse the photos.

Every change made in the console is recorded in a log that cannot be edited or deleted.

From the console we can also suspend an account that abuses the service, sign you out everywhere if you lose your phone, close an account, and send a receipt that failed to be read again.

Where your data is kept, and how it is protected

Krataa's database and files are kept in the United States, in Ohio.

Data travels over encrypted connections. The database itself allows each household's records and files to be read only by that household's members. This website holds no secret keys.

No system is perfectly safe. If your data is ever exposed, we will tell you without delay.

Receipts, photos, lines, budgets, shopping lists you named, and claimsUntil they are removed. Nothing expires by itself.
A receipt that is not itemized yetUntil it is itemized, or until anyone in the household deletes it. Its photo is deleted with it. A deletion that fails is not tried again by itself, so a photo can stay in storage until we clear it. Write to us if you want that checked.
A receipt that is itemizedIt stays in the household's Ledger. The app has no button to delete it yet. Write to us to have one removed.

Your choices

  • See and export. Account, Export everything gives you one spreadsheet file with your household's receipts, lines, items, claims and monthly totals.
  • Fix. You can correct the lines Krataa marked for you to check, and a receipt's store and date. To have anything else corrected, write to us.
  • Turn off itemizing. Account, Data and privacy.
  • Leave Discover. One tap on Discover.
  • Turn off alerts. Account, Alerts.
  • Close your account. Account, Close account. This signs you out for good and removes your alert token. What you added stays with your household, so the others keep their record.
  • Have your data erased. Write to support@relu.io from the email address on your account, or tell us your display name and household. We erase your sign-in record, your profile and picture, your answers and your device records within 30 days, and we tell you when it is done. The receipts and entries you added stay with your household, so the others keep their record, unless you ask for those to be erased too. Then they are erased as well, with their photos. Receipts that other members added stay with them.
  • Leave the waitlist. Use the link at the foot of any email from Krataa, or write to us.

You have these choices wherever you live. We will not treat you differently for using them. If we say no to a request, we will say why, and you can ask us to look again.

This website and the waitlist

This website sets no cookies and has no trackers. Its pages are set in the fonts your device already has. On a device without them, two fonts come from the site itself, as its images do, and never from another company. It does not count visits.

Light or dark. If you choose light or dark at the foot of a page, your browser remembers that one choice in its own storage. It is not sent anywhere. The site keeps nothing else in your browser.

Serving pages. Like every web host, Vercel receives your internet address and browser details in order to send you a page, and keeps short logs.

The waitlist. If you join, Krataa keeps your email address, when you joined, the page you joined from, which version of the form's words you saw, and whether you confirmed. Krataa uses it for three emails at most: one asking you to confirm, one when the beta has room for you, and one when Krataa opens on the App Store. Every one of them ends with a link that takes you off the list in one tap and deletes your address. Your address is never sold, and it is not added to any other list. It goes to Resend, the email service, so that these emails can be sent. To limit abuse, a scrambled form of your internet address is kept for one day. When you use the form, Cloudflare checks that a person is signing up, and receives your internet address and browser details to do that.

Email from Krataa. Emails are plain. They carry no tracking pixel, and their links are not tracked.

Writing to us. We keep your message and your address to answer you.

Children

Krataa is for people aged 18 or older. It is not for children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has used Krataa, write to us and we will delete what was collected.

Outside the United States

Krataa is built for the United States: its stores, its dollars, its tax rules. All data is kept in the United States. If you join the waitlist from another country, your email address is kept in the United States and handled as this page says. Wherever you live, you can ask us to show, correct or erase what we hold about you, and you can take back a yes at any time.

Tracking and "do not track"

Krataa does not track you across websites or apps, and no other company can collect information about you across sites through this website or the app. Because nothing is tracked, a "do not track" or global privacy signal from your browser changes nothing: you already have what it asks for.

Changes to this policy

The date at the top says when this version took effect. If a change affects what Krataa collects or who receives it, we will say so in the app and on this page at least 14 days before it applies. Earlier versions are listed at the foot of this page.
